Med Austron in Wiener Neustadt is one of the major Center for Ion Beam Therapy and Research in Europe. The Center, done in cooperation with CERN, is in operation since 2016 and involve 1.400 patients every year.
The non-clinical research focuses on medical radiation physics, radiation biology and experimental physics. Synchrotron is able to accelerate particles to the planned extraction energy, ranging from 60 MeV to 250 MeV for protons and 120 MeV/u to 400 MeV/u for carbon ions, suitable for the medical application.
For non-clinical research only, a proton energy extended up to 800 MeV is also possible.
For Med Austron EEI supplied 90% of all converters in the facility, output current from 50A to 3300A.
SCANNING MAGNET POWER SUPPLIES:
A set of free-standing, 4-quadrant, 600 A, 600 V switched-mode power supplies was delivered in 2015. The power supplies feed the scanning magnets. Both voxel and painting mode are supported, with adjustable current slope. The power converter features a voltage rise/fall time as low as 30 μs (from zero to the nominal voltage) and a current settling time less than 200 μs.
